The State of Florida offers two state level tests for Sign Language Interpreters. One is the Quality Assurance Test (QA), the other is the Florida Educational Interpreters Evaluation (EIE). The QA is a State-screening test for Interpreters and is not diagnostic, it is pass or fail. This test consists of a written exam, an interview process and a performance skill evaluation. There are three levels:
QA Level 1: Denotes that an interpreter has an entry level ability, received and expressed 60% of the material presented during the Evaluation. An interpreter at this level should be able to completely handle situations in which there is an opportunity to stop the student or professional for clarification or repetition. Must retest every 2 years. Test must be re-taken every 4 years. Florida QA Level Interpreters follow RID Code of Ethics.
