Florida Educational Interpreters Evaluation

The Florida Educational Interpreter Evaluation (EIE) is a diagnostic test and includes a written exam, an interview process and a performance skill evaluation. The EIE has the following 3 levels:

EIE Level 1: Denotes that an interpreter has an entry level ability, received and expressed 60% of the material presented during the Evaluation. An interpreter at this level should be able to completely handle situations in which there is an opportunity to stop the student or professional for clarification or repetition.

EIE Level II: Denotes that an interpreter with intermediate ability who appropriately received and expressed at least 75% of the material presented during the evaluation. An interpreter with this level should be able to effectively handle difficult, faster-paced communication where there may or may not be an opportunity to stop for clarification or repetition.

EIE III: Denotes that an interpreter with advanced ability who appropriately received and expressed at least 90% of the material presented during the evaluation. An interpreter at this level can proficiently handle a full range of complex communication situations occurring in the educational environment.

An Interpreter must re-take the examination every 4 years.
